Easy listening

Usually we listen to the pirates down in the radio room or in the bedroom, but we also have a receiver in the living room and tonight we connected up the antenna. The radio is a Lowe HF150 and we used our new MW coil antenna at around 12 metres high to listen to Radio Barones on 1647 and Radio Calipso on 1620. Reception of both stations was super and we enjoyed listening with a nice cup of tea and some Dutch biscuits!

You can watch a video of the reception . . .

Super reception. But who is that voice with the jingle on Baro????!!

Top marks at last!

Thursday was a busy and long day at work for me and I did not arrive home until late. So, after something to eat, it was time to go to bed.

I keep a Sony 2001d and a small loop antenna in the bedroom, so before going to the land of sleep I thought I would make a quick check at the top of the mediumwave band. And I was very pleased I did . . .

Booming out of the receiver with 55555 was Monte Carlo... a really tremendous signal. And then, when he closed down, Radio Spakenburg came on air, again with the maximum signal. For some time now, the operator of that station has been trying to be heard in England with top marks, and now he has done it!

I made a few short videos of the reception of Spakenburg.

Firstly, with the radio on the bed (Lisa was already asleep and the radio did not wake her!) . . .

Then with the radio next to the bed . . .

And finally, listening to Spakenburg with the lights switched out . . .

As well as Spakenburg and Monte Carlo, plenty of other stations were coming in very well on the portable receiver. I also heard: Santana, Jeneverstoker, Pandora, Utopia and Casablanca

The stations we have heard recently on MW

It's been a while since I posted any logs on here, so here we go with what has been heard recently here in England. As usual the receiver is the Lowe HF225 with loop antenna and now with an additional coil antenna at around 12 metres high

Audio we made in the Netherlands

While we were on holiday in the Netherlands last month, we were lucky enough to be able to stay in the homes of Radio Barones, Zeewolf and Relmus. We all had some fine times, doing all sorts of things including a day trip to the zoo and going inside two windmills, one that was working, much to the delight of my eldest daughter!

There were lots of broadcasts made where I took the microphone a few times . . . and I was also able to make some recordings of other stations. As you all know, I make a lot of recordings in England that feature on my MW Pirate Review, so it was interesting to hear how the stations I listen to at home are received in England.

You can download some of the recordings here and be amazed at how strong some of the signals are. If only we had all these MW pirates in England . . .

That Relmus gets everywhere!

So last night I went to bed a little earlier than usual after a long day at work. But just as the lights went out, I switched on the portable receiver by the side of the bed and heard a big signal on 1635. Me and Mrs Wizard wondered who it could be and soon there was an announcement: "Radio Relmus"!

Mr Relmus was trying a different transmitter - one belonging to Radio Batavier with about 500 watts. The signal was superb and I made a small video when the bedroom light was switched out. Take a look . . . out of the darkness you will hear the booming voice of the Relmus taking to a listener in New Hampshire, USA!
